Amazon Still Fails

Amazon is still claiming it was all an error. An embarrassing error. And I'm wondering, "where the fuck is the apology?" Still haven't heard one. Still not giving them any money (and, damn, I really want to preorder Dollhouse). An apology would, at the very least, show Amazon has enough shame to pretend to care what this looks like.

Unlikely it was a mistake: http://www.afterellen.com/node/48877

People are backing down and saying AmazonFail was overblown. What else do you expect from a country that lived under eight years of Bush and never flipped its shit?

Looks like I'll be deleting my Amazon account come Monday.

Being Right Sucks If No One Listens To You

Looks like the Obamaniacs are finally waking up...you know, after Obama's repeatedly gone back on campaign promises. Big ones.

Oh, look at this. Yeah, that gives me warm fuzzies.

Good work, America. You were not being hopeful, you were settling. You were so busy patting yourself on the back for electing a black man (who I bet never would have gotten elected if the most recent white guy hadn't screwed up so badly), that you threw all logic out the window. In any other country, we would have gone French Revolution on the government's ass long ago.

Well, everyone's in debt with no jobs...is there really anything to lose?

Amazon Fail

http://www.examiner.com/x-3569-Denver-Internet-Examiner~y2009m4d12-Online-censorship-Amazon-strips-ranking-of-Gay-and-Lesbian-books
Petition: http://www.thepetitionsite.com/1/in-protest-at-amazons-new-adult-policy

Long and short: Amazon introduced a policy that would remove "adult" books from its rankings/best seller lists and thus, general store-wide search results (so, when you search "homosexuality," you wind up with a bunch of anti-gay books). Shock and awe, a bunch of non-adult GLBT books (Heather's Two Moms, anyone?) and apparently some feminist ones have been removed, while explicit heterosexual books haven't. Once caught red-handed, Amazon claimed that this is a glitch. Yeah. Uh-huh. Anyone with two braincells to rub together can tell it's intentional.

After reading this, I kept thinking, didn't someone pull similar shit like this, down to claiming "glitch"? And then I remembered - it was LiveJournal.

And I was just about to pre-order Dollhouse on DVD. But I guess Amazon isn't as interested in making money as much as it is in discriminating.

Angry Obama is the Best

I love pissy!Obama. I hope he stays very angry for his entire presidency. My critiques of him still stand, but he's rockin' right now and I really want to put an Obama pin next to my McKinney one on my purse.

Seriously. I'm loving this.

Just Fuck It

I've never been a big Obama fan. I never believed he was liberal, and always pegged him for center-right. I never thought the election of a black man signified anything except now minorities can get fucked over by our own kind. Maybe I'm cynical because that's my nature, or because I've been subjected to the Bush clusterfuck from the moment I became fully politically aware up until now. But all I ever saw Obama as was More Of The Same - a rich, detached politician who cared more about climbing a political ladder rather than actually helping anyone. Oh, he's smart, but his intelligence won't help us any.

I've been following the Rick Warren drama for the past few days, but haven't really bothered to say much about it, because it's pretty standard for Obama or any other politician without any real convictions. Or a Democrat. I and other true liberals are pissed. Some are getting disillusioned (the more, the better, I say). Then there are those Obamafreaks who think he's God or something, and insist that we all continue to trust him despite him repeatedly showing that's not such a great plan. But this rant isn't about them, or even specifically about Obama.

This gets long. )

The Next Morning

The day before the election, I saw a photoshopped image of the Obamas that said "President Barack Obama and the First Family," and I'll admit, I got a little thrill seeing that. I stayed up last night until I knew who won, and got up this morning and a watched a few minutes of people celebrating.

But I just can't ride a buzz from this, knowing it appears Prop 8 is going to pass in California, along with discriminatory measures in other states (bans on same-sex marriage and bans on gays adopting). I just thought, this is probably the essence of an Obama presidency. No, Obama didn't vote on these measures, but people who voted for him did, and I expect the same feeling of disappointment for his entire term.

Like I always say, I'd be glad if he proved me wrong, but I really doubt it. I expect Obama to be someone for America to point to and claim progress, to cover up for our assbackwardness in, oh, everything.

President Obama

Well. I thought that was going to take a bit longer.

Not that I'm complaining! (Except, what am I going to do for the rest of the night? Sleep, I guess...)

We're Screwed

Does this give you warm fuzzies?

Or this?

Gee, you think martial law's going to be declared? Congress is getting threatened with it if they vote "wrong," and in the face of an economic crisis, Bush suddenly decides that this is the kind of thing he could use to potentially (read: will) declare martial law.

Oh, this is comforting. Not.

Come on, now.

(EDIT: Here's that video of the random arrests of random people at a park during the Republican convention. I dare someone to justify that shit.)

I Rest My Case

"Palin just seems like someone you can relate to. Hillary doesn't seem like you could sit down and have a cup of coffee with her."
- Some Dumbass

(Don't get it? Replace "Palin" with "Bush," "coffee" with "beer," and "Hillary" with either "Gore" or "Kerry.")

Palin = Bush

I know, more politics. But it's important.

I've been saying Sarah Palin is the new George Bush, and Naomi Wolf wrote a blog entry about that with details I was unaware of. (And don't get me started on the creepy shit happening to Wolf.)

As much as I enjoy Wolf's writing, I don't agree with everything she says. And I think she's a bit slow in her reactions - she didn't put out The End of America until last year, didn't think impeachment was a good idea until last year, and her new book has been released only a month prior to Election Day. And now she's insinuating that, somehow, voting for Barack Obama will help put the country back on track.

First off, we're probably going to experience the same funny math in counting votes as we have in elections since 2000, so it's not going to matter a whole lot who anyone votes for. (Let me take this moment to say, please vote anyway.)

Second, Obama, for all intents and purposes, is for the police state. He caved so fast on FISA, just to list a particularly blatant offense. He supported the PATRIOT Act. At the end of the day, it essentially makes no difference who gets in office, because both candidates want to fuck us over.

Okay, perhaps Obama doesn't want to fuck us over and isn't making a power grab. The alternatives are no better. He could be, like most idiots giving the Bush regime a pass, believe that these laws will not affect him. (He's wrong.) Or worse, he's being watched; maybe he's being coerced, or he's already afraid to speak about real issues. He's the same as the majority of Democrats; the reason he's not our savior is the same reason writing to your representatives doesn't do jack shit. (An aside - let my plug this video, because it's awesome.)

Third, even if Obama is the second coming of Christ and gets elected, he's going to hold the most powerful office in the world - now on steroids, thanks to all the extra powers he's not supposed to have. He's going to use them. And even if he doesn't, he's not going to repeal them, and the next jackass will use them.

And don't even get me started on how we all damn well know if Obama's elected, there will be an assassination attempt.

So we have one party that's being used (yes, used; it's not Republicans themselves) to maintain power. The other party is rendered ineffectual. The third parties, and anyone in the major ones trying to get anything done, are ridiculed and/or kept out of the media so that they are never considered a viable option.

I think we're about to hit a tipping point. Wolf's ideas are great, but her suggestions for action are too little, too late. I really do think all that's left is direct confrontation between the People and the State, and I'm hoping the People will be up to it.

Horrifying

So, starting this Wednesday, an Army brigade is going to be stationed domestically. You know, never mind that's what the National Guard is for. And, oh, it's a brigade that's been stationed in Iraq for too goddamn long (35 months), so they're prime candidates for flipping their shit and killing - or at the very least, injuring - American citizens. And they're going to be used to deal with "civil unrest" and "crowd control" and they're being called the "Consequence Management Response Force."

If this shit isn't setting off some serious alarm bells, there is something deeply, deeply wrong with you.

Welcome to America, where Big Brother is always watching and we have always been at war with Iran Iraq!

Please don't watch those videos and get scared - that's what they want. Get mad. The government's been at war with the people, but using the Army is now making it official.

Shit is going to hit the fan between Election Day and Inauguration. I don't know what, exactly, that will entail, but something's going down.

Fuckin' Figures

Forgive my frequent use of the word fuck...but that's what I said when I found out McCain chose Sarah Palin as his VP. God, this pisses me off on so many levels, I don't even know where to begin.

McCain picks a woman, to appeal to women (the group he's polling like crap with), and to stupid, disgruntled Hillary supporters (a small amount, but they're there). And on top of that, she's still anti-choice, and doesn't really go against Republican "values." People are already falling for this bull, unsurprisingly, because Americans Are Stupid.

She has even less experience than Obama, so she's obviously just a tool for the Republicans, and I so do not want to see the first female VP get the position that way. And it's bad enough McCain will be a total disaster as President, if he kicks off, she'll be a disaster, too. (And if that happens, everyone decides women = crap leaders.)

Being the good tool she is, Palin will be put forth to frame the abortion debate. If Obama's smart, he'll emphasize the difference between himself and McCain. But since he hasn't been doing that, he'll probably try even harder to be Republican Lite. (And 60%-lifetime-rating-from-NARAL Biden doesn't help matters.) The sexist commentary has already started up again, too. Hooray. And no matter what happens or who wins, women will be blamed.

What a shit year for women in politics.

The Audacity to Not Hope

Seriously, just fuck you Obama. You and the Democratic party. The 2008 Election should be no contest, but only the Democrats can screw up this badly. Way back in the primaries with Florida and Michigan is when they screwed themselves over, and their problems have been compounding ever since.

The only reason I could take into consideration for voting for him in the fall is the economy, because I know McCain will screw that up. But Obama's been acting like a closet Republican, which makes me doubt he can do even that much right.

I think shit's going to hit the fan this year, anyway. A revolution is coming, and it's not just fringe wackos saying it. Just regular people, casually bringing it up. I don't think it's going to matter who gets elected, because either way, people are going to flip out. I hope so. Because things are just going to get worse if we do anything less.

But I'm certainly not going to not vote.

I'll probably be one of the assholes voting for a third-part candidate. (Hello, Cynthia McKinney!) Feel free to blame me if McCain gets into office, but if you don't like it, march into the capital on inauguration day and do something about it. (Remember Bush's inauguration? Mmm, rioting! Freedom at it's best.)

I'm Lovin' It

Can I just say how much I love Dennis Kucinich? I was starting to give up on any hope that he could make progress on this impeachment thing, but Kucinich kept going.

How I wish he were the Democratic candidate.

Why am I voting for him?

Oh yeah, because he's not McCain. But not much better.

Wow. I miss Hillary.

Are you really surprised?

So Obama's in favor of the FISA bill and is pushing for faith-based bullshit initiatives. Wow, way to differentiate yourself from the Republicans. Or, you know, the current administration. The Obamafreaks are flipping out.

See, this is part of the reason I slightly preferred Hillary Clinton for a while. (And yet I voted for Obama at the last minute. Go figure.) Sure, she's not super-liberal, but we know what we're going to get. Between that and the rampant Clinton-hate, we would be able to keep close tabs on the next president. And boy does the executive branch need some close watching.

I was right about Obama. Go me. Being cynical has its ups - no crushing disappointment on my part.

I knew the media would pit Obama and Hillary against each other. ("The nigger or the bitch?") And thus minorities against each other. (Blacks? Worst-organized minority. Ever. And women refuse to stick together these days. So of course it works.)

I made a wild guess at the very beginning that Obama would get the nomination, by asking myself, "who does America hate more? Blacks or women?"

I knew Obama would be a media darling only until he got the nomination. Then it would promptly turn against him and start favoring McCain again.

I knew Obama was a politician. A really good politician. Alas, that typically means he's lying through his teeth, no matter how honest his face or how nice his words.

I know Americans are stupid. Don't argue this point with me, you know it's true. We're going to have a third Bush term President McCain.

On the very slim possibility that Obama manages to get into office...
...he'll spend all his time cleaning up after Bush.
...Republicans and media will blame him for the recession, and claim he did nothing during his 4-8 years.
...he gets assassinated. Or at least someone tries it.
...we get no universal healthcare because Democrats are ball sacks.
...his "reaching across the aisle" looks suspiciously like "bending over backwards."
...it's Hillary Clinton's fault. Just because it always is.
...blacks get mad because he's not black enough.
...everyone else gets mad because he's too black.
...he gets held to ridiculously higher standards just because he's a black man, in order to set him up to fail.
...we learn just how racist America is.
...Republicans and media try to sell him as "Worst President Ever," as they do with Carter. (Because Reagan is the best ever, right? America sure loves having a crappy economy and being ass-backwards on every social issue.)

I would say this is depressing, but it's pretty much the usual.

I really hate people.

(Oh, and don't you love it that only Republicans are allowed to be war heroes? John Kerry? Swiftboat him! Wesley Clark? Let's just gloss over that fact! If you bought this "Clark is swiftboating McCain!" bull, you're an idiot. Twice as much, considering the irony on McCain's part. If you don't get that, three times an idiot.)

Reality: Always Funnier than Fiction

You just can't make this shit up.

Seriously, do people not recognize the pattern yet? People who are fixated on the sexual activities of others almost always are big fat pervs themselves - or something really awful, like child molesters.

SHUT THE FUCK UP ALREADY.

Pennsylvania Primary Tomorrow

When the primaries started, I was a hardcore Kucinich girl. He dropped out, and, predictably, the remaining choices were not impressing me. He endorsed Obama, but I leaned towards Clinton the past few months. The past couple of weeks, I was back to "meh" again on both of them.

Clinton attacking MoveOn rubs me the wrong way. And anyone who knows me knows very little of what she says gets to me. Between this and the last debate, she's gotten incredibly sloppy (on the attacks, that is; when she speaks on policy, she's perfect). Maybe she's desperate, I don't know. I just don't see what she was trying to achieve.

So, I guess I'm slightly in favor of Obama right now. You know, the way I was in favor of John Kerry (blech). Seriously feeling underwhelmed again this year, but the worst part is that now I'm a registered voter, and I'm going to vote, damnit, although I don't see what difference it'll make. Clinton and Obama were both pre-approved by the whore media, and that speaks volumes about how "same old, same old" they are.

Can we please have a third political party? How about real debates? Bring back civics class? No? Damn.
