New Computer
Long story short...I'm on a brand-new MacBook Pro now. My sister's getting my Dell at the end of the week. Mostly, I'm making this entry because I'll be a little, um, discombobulated for lack of a better word. I know how to use a Mac, but I have to figure out what programs are going to work on it, etc.

But, yay, free of Windows Vista :D

UPDATE:
Wow, this was the most painless move from computer to computer I've ever done. Partially because we have an external harddrive at home, and partially because the Mac is just fast. (2GB of memory!)

Lexique Pro is the only real casualty here, since it only works on Windows. ZuluPad works on this computer, but not the paid version...which I did buy. But, fortunately, it was only $15. My copy of ComicWorks is only for Windows. But then again, it didn't work on Vista anyway. Everything else either has a Mac version or was easily replaced with an open source program. And installation? SO. EASY.

And I ordered an 80GB iPod Classic this morning, since I've been wanting one for a while, and I'll have to reformat the iPod I do have anyway to get it to work with this computer.

Still need to get a new scanner, though.

But, yes, glad to have finally made the big switch! :D

Hooray! New comps are fun, I guess.
Having an external hard drive means you don't have to transfer any files you've saved, right? We need to get one of those.

I have questions now..I've used Macs all through school but, is it really better than a PC? How is the overall usage on it? I mean, can you still function the way you would on a PC?

Sorry..Macs make me hyper >.

Well, we use our external hard drive for backing up stuff, so I was using it to move my files from computer to computer. (On the Mac, I could add more files to transfer with drag-and-drop while other ones were already in the middle of transfer. Could never do that on the Dell.)

I haven't had a really thorough experience with MacBooks (my school's were very stripped down, but also slow because someone didn't set the network up correctly), but the MacBook Pro is like my freakin' dream laptop. My Dell was supposed to be a high-end model (Inspiron E1705), but it's got nothing on this Mac. Spore Creature Creator runs flawlessly on the Mac and looks better than it ever did on the Dell. It also boots up and shuts down quicker than the Dell did when it was new.

Windows Vista also obviously tried to copy OS X's look. Looks like they inadvertently trained me to be a Mac user XD I'd say using a Mac is more intuitive than a PC (despite right click without a mouse being control + click). The Mac came with a lot of useful programs, but it's not bloated like every PC I've ever used. For example, Garage Band replaced about four separate programs I used on the Dell. The lack of clutter feels unbelievably good.

Also, it doesn't force its preferences onto the user as much as Windows does. I don't like Safari, I like Firefox for my browser. When I tried to pull Safari off my dock, it wouldn't disappear, but when I restarted, it was gone! (I haven't tried uninstalling it yet, but I imagine it will let me...unlike Windows and its lame-ass Internet Explorer.)

The Mac also seems to handle crashes better than PCs. I managed to get iMovie to crash (...*cough*); it shut itself down, told me it didn't affect the rest of the system, and then asked if I wanted to restart it. But it definitely doesn't crash as much as Windows stuff does.

I thought it was going to be harder to adjust after using PCs all my life, but I'm already used to it. I'd say I function better than on a PC. (As someone who's used Windows '95, '98, ME, 2000, XP, and Vista...OS X blows them all away :D)
